Veterans, strong, intelligent individuals – giving up whatever they have, for the good of others. Putting their life on the line to make a change; simply for the love of their country. This strength and courage, we as children, could never even imagine having, which is why these veterans, are heroes.
As a whole, our society thinks only of ourselves; never having the slightest idea of the terrible events occurring around us. Veterans, leave behind everything important to them, fly to an unfamiliar country and battle day and night, only for the good of others. Each day we complain; not being able to do something we want, or getting in trouble, but these cannot even compare to what veterans witness while overseas. Seeing friends being killed, watching innocent people getting their lives taken from them before they even began to live it. How can we ever thank these heroes for what they have done for us? We think we are too young to make a difference, too young to make a change, when we could do something as simple as to celebrate a holiday to give them the honor they deserve.
November 11th – Veterans Day – A day in honor of our veterans. A day we think little of, a day as middle school students, we do not appreciate the way we should. This day we should use as a day of remembrance, and a day to respect and think of those fighting for our freedom abroad. Celebrating this holiday, is not the only thing we can do to make a change. Each day while sitting at home, even for just a few minutes we can think of these military heroes. Pray for them, think of them, and remember them, for our country wouldn’t be the same without them. So when is the right time to honor our veterans? The answer is always.
Through our thoughts and actions, whether big or small, we can make a difference. Just by celebrating a holiday – spreading the word of their accomplishments – makes a huge impact on our society. Putting their life on the line every day, simply for the love of their country, they are truly heroes. Even a few minutes a day is enough to remember what they have done to achieve such success, because without them, our country would never be the same.
Taylor,
ReplyDeleteThe majority of your essay was awesome. You had good sentances, and strong ideas. In the begining, there were a few sentances that were a little long. Try using more dash constructions and semi-colans.
Nice conclusion, too. I like how you said "this is what you should do about the problem" instead of just "this is the problem"
I like how you are branching out to more stylistic sentence structures, and away from just reciting information. Your essays are good, especially when you attach more of your passion to the topic at hand. I would say be more careful with commas; whenever you use one, be sure you can actually cite why you are, and don't insert them for pauses as it can lead to overuse.
